My classes are designed with cosplayers in mind. The techniques you will learn can be used to make nearly any kind of garment for both men and women.
Most masquerades and competitions require you have made at least 60-70 percent of your costume yourself. This means you will inevitably need to sew something. You can be the best prop maker and foam crafter, but if you cannot sew well you run the risk of ruining your chances in competition. As a competitive cosplayer myself, my classes offer insight to help you up your cosplay game.
Don't you just love those cosplay inspired nerdy dresses? Do you wish you had an awesome shirt with that kick butt fabric you just bought. Learning to sew means you can make garments outside of your cosplay work.

Why is sewing so important to cosplay? The answer is pretty obvious - all characters wear some form of clothing.
The unique challenge in cosplay is translating the clothing that a character wears into real life. Many times, character's clothing defies the laws of physics or has no apparent seaming. Cosplay clothing can seem overwhelming, but if you break it down, it is no so hard.
Learning to sew gives you the ability to make your own clothing and not just costumes. This opens up a whole new world in your wardrobe.
CHARACTERS NEED CLOTHES
Even the characters with the skimpiest of clothing or the biggest armor wear clothing. Learning to sew gives you the ability to make the clothes that fit your body.
COSTUMES NEED TO FIT YOU
Most cosplay costumes that you can buy are designed for a single body type. The problem is that we are all different - and that is wonderful! It's not your body that is the problem - it is the clothing. When you make your costume, you end up with garments that fit your body and make you look great.
IT IS EXPENSIVE TO COMMISSION
Commissioning costumes is great, but it can also be expensive and take a long time to get your costume. When you sew, you don't need to have your costumes commissioned unless you want to.
MAKE YOUR OWN CLOTHES
Why stop at just making costumes? Those adorable geek girl dresses and awesome shirts are yours to make. That adorable print you saw at the fabric store could be your very next outfit. Learning to sew expands your wardrobe with endless possibilities.

Teacher and Owner of Cosplay Sewing School
I founded Cosplay Sewing School as a way to share my gift and love of sewing and costuming. I have been making my own clothing since I was 6 years old. Sewing is my lifelong passion, a craft I could not live without. Although I discovered cosplay later in my life, costuming has always been a passion of mine. I love how being in costume makes you feel and how cosplay gives you the freedom to express yourself in a whole new way.
In many conversations I have had with cosplayers, it seems sewing is one of the more intimidating skills to take on. There is so much to learn and so many different skills that need honed. My goal with Cosplay Sewing School is to take the intimidation out of sewing through simple classes that teach you to sew with small goals. Baby steps take the scary out of anything! I hope that you choose to learn to sew and I wish you the best in your costuming endeavors.
